Care Ministry

Our Mission
The Care Ministry exists to extend mercy and serve those in need at Northlake and throughout the community. The Care Ministry is the vehicle for carrying out the work of Deacons.

Who We Are
The Care Ministry Leadership Team is made up of Deacons whose role is to develop and oversee a program to serve those in our congregational and community with needs for financial, practical and emotional support.

Who We Help
We seek to serve and minister to the sick and hurting, those without a family support network, and those who are in emotional and/or financial difficulty.

What We Do
We respond to requests for assistance, such as counseling referrals, meeting practical needs, and granting financial help when applicable.

How We Help
In all circumstances, we seek to build relationships with individuals and families, so that we can help them most effectively. We commit to pray with them and encourage them spiritually and emotionally, and help them connect to Biblical community. When needs arise, we will assess each circumstance with facts and discernment on a case-by-case basis. We want to help people discover their God-given strengths and assets to help them in solving their problems. Practically speaking, the following programs are used to help us accomplish our mission:
  • Visitation and Prayer Support with individuals and families
  • Counseling Referrals
  • Financial Counseling through Northlake or The Whatcom Dream
  • Friends and Food Program
  • Food Pantry
  • Financial Assistance
  • Meals
  • Support Groups such as Love & Logic, Financial Peace University, DivorceCare

If you have a need, please call the Care Ministries office at 671-9500 ext. 23 to discuss your situation, or email us at

Compassion Fund
"Koinonia" is a Greek word that appears in the Bible 20 times. Its meaning is primarily "communion, fellowship, sharing in common and communion." Here at Northlake, once a month on the 2nd Sunday we take a special "Koinonia Offering" in addition to our regular tithes and offerings. All of the money that is given for this special offering goes specifically to support our Care Ministries.

How to Get Involved
There are many ways to get involved with the Care Ministries. Some of them include:
  • Help out at a monthly Friends and Food lunch.
  • Make a meal for someone who is sick, just had a baby or otherwise in need.
  • Visit a Northlaker who is unable to get to Church on Sundays anymore.
  • Donate to the Food Pantry (lists of current needs are on the rack across from the restrooms).
  • Donate to the Compassion Fund.
Other events and ways to help out will be listed in the weekly each Sunday. To get more information about these opportunities email:
